SRQ Vets 8th Annual Memorial Hike

Memorial Day is almost here and we want to give you a heads-up on a terrific way to commemorate it with us. This Memorial Day, May 27th, will be our 8th Annual Memorial Hike with the intention of honoring fallen veterans at the JD Hamel Memorial Park. Here are some event details and a reminder of why it’s so important to remember American service veterans during this long-standing national holiday.

Join us for the SRQ Vets 8th Annual Memorial Hike in Sarasota

SRQ Vets invites you to help us honor every American soldier, sailor, airman, marine, and other who has served in combat, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This is now the 8th hike we’ve held on Memorial Day, a volunteer event, with proceeds dedicated to assisting local veterans.

It should be a great opportunity to enjoy exercise, commemorate fallen heroes, have a meal together, and help veterans and their families.

Why Memorial Day Still Matters

This has become one of our biggest events every year and for many reasons. Memorial Day is still relevant to our national identity given the immense volume of young men and women who have dedicated (and lost) their lives by defending our country.

Even if you can’t meet with us to hike around Sarasota, there are numerous ways to commemorate this important holiday:

  • Visiting, decorating, and praying around gravestones of former military vets.
  • Holding your own BBQ or gathering, especially if you can invite a veteran you know to participate.
  • Read about the heroics of past war veterans from the American Revolution, Civil War, WW2, etc.
  • Decorate your home with patriotic colors and spread the word about our upcoming event.

So, we look forward to seeing you in a few weeks on Memorial Day. Don’t forget that there are plenty of other ways to support retired and disabled vets through the SRQ Vet’s many charitable initiatives. There’s no such thing as too small of a way to make a difference or brighten the day of a local wounded or struggling veteran.
