For Veterans: Getting Assistance
What kind of services does SRQ Vets provide to local veterans?
We provide a comprehensive range of practical support for veterans in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Our core services include:

- Housing & Home Safety: Installation of mobility ramps and minor home modifications for accessibility.
- Transportation: Auto repairs and, when available, vehicle donations to ensure you can get to work and medical appointments.

- Financial Education: Budgeting tools and guidance for long-term stability.
- VA Claims Assistance: We help navigate the VA system to ensure you get the benefits you earned.

Am I eligible for assistance if I am not combat wounded?
Yes. SRQ Vets supports all honorably discharged veterans residing in Sarasota and the surrounding areas. We review every request on a case-by-case basis to provide the most effective support possible.
How do I apply for help?
The fastest way to get help is to fill out the “Request Assistance” form. A team member will review your application and contact you to discuss your specific needs.
Does SRQ Vets offer mental health support?
SRQ Vets does not provide direct mental health services or crisis intervention. However, the organization can help connect veterans with appropriate mental health resources, including VA programs and local providers. Veterans experiencing a mental health crisis should call 988 and press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line immediately.

How can my business become a sponsor?
SRQ Vets offers structured corporate sponsorship opportunities with defined tiers and benefits, including brand visibility at community events, recognition across SRQ Vets’ digital channels, and authentic storytelling opportunities. Corporate sponsorships of 501(c)(3) organizations may be structured as business expenses rather than charitable donations, depending on the benefits included; consult your CPA for the right structure. Where does my donation go?
Every donation to SRQ Vets funds direct veteran assistance programs in Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties. Programs include vehicle repairs and donations, mobility ramp installation, utility assistance, and financial education. SRQ Vets does not receive ongoing government funding; all programs are sustained entirely by community donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events. SRQ Vets is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Can I donate a vehicle to a veteran?
What happens to a vehicle donated to SRQ Vets?
SRQ Vets evaluates each donated vehicle for safety, repair cost, reliability, expected useful life, and affordability for the recipient. When practical, the vehicle is repaired and prepared for direct placement with a local veteran in Sarasota, Manatee, or DeSoto County. Vehicles that are unsafe, uneconomical to repair, or too costly for a veteran to maintain may be sold to support SRQ Vets’ local veteran assistance programs.
Will my vehicle definitely be given directly to a veteran?
Direct placement is our goal when the vehicle can be made safe, dependable, and affordable for a veteran to own. However, direct placement cannot be guaranteed. Some vehicles may be sold or declined based on their condition, repair cost, ownership cost, or other practical considerations. Every vehicle is reviewed individually.
Does the vehicle have to be running?
No. SRQ Vets may consider both running and non-running vehicles. Every vehicle is reviewed individually. Photographs and accurate information about the vehicle’s condition help our team determine whether an inspection or further evaluation makes sense.
Why would SRQ Vets sell a donated vehicle instead of giving it to a veteran?
Some vehicles require repairs that are not financially responsible, while others may be too expensive for a veteran to insure, fuel, service, or maintain even after repair. When a vehicle is not a practical direct-placement candidate, SRQ Vets may sell it and use the proceeds to support local veteran assistance programs. The proceeds stay local and fund the same mission.
What kinds of vehicles does SRQ Vets consider?
SRQ Vets may consider cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans in a range of conditions. Acceptance depends on title status, vehicle location, mechanical condition, repair needs, expected useful life, and the vehicle’s potential value to the mission. Can I give to SRQ Vets through a Donor-Advised Fund?

Do I have to be a veteran to volunteer with SRQ Vets?
No, you don’t need military experience to serve those who have served. We welcome all patriotic community members. We need help with:
- Skilled Labor: Building ramps and home repairs.
- Events: Setting up for fundraisers, such as our Memorial Hike or Clay Shoots.
- Admin: Office support and organization.
- Companionship: Simply spending time with elderly veterans.
